IELTS Writing task 1 작성 관련 팁 - map 작성 방법

Writing task 1의 점수 비중은 크지 않다.(25%) 주로 등장하는 것은 선 그래프다. 허나 지도, 파이 차트, 막대 그래프 등 다양한 방식으로 출제된다. 오늘 공부할 것은 map이다.

 

1. Task 1 글의 형식

글은 Introduction(서론), 핵심 분석(In general), 세부 분석(Details)으로 전개된다고 볼 수 있다. Introduction은 보통 문장 1개, general은 1~3문장이다. Details는 General을 뒷받침할 수 있는 문장이여야 한다. 보통 general 1개를 2~3 문장이 뒷받침하면 된다.

 

INTRODUCTION(1) + GENERAL(1~3) + DETAILS(6)

Task 1의 분량은 150자 내외라고 보면 된다.

 

 

 

2. Introduction 작성 방법

Introduction sentence는 Starting keywords + chart type + verb + description으로 이루어진다. Introduction은 무엇이, 어디서, 언제 나타난 것인지 설명할 수 있어야 한다.

 

Starting keywords에는 다음 중 아무거나 들어가도 상관이 없다. (The given, The supplied, The presented, The shown, The provided 등) 개인적으로 The supplied, The provided를 쓰는 것을 추천한다. 덜 쓰이는 용어라 어휘력 부분에서 긍정적 평가를 받을 수도 있다.

 

Chart type은 말그대로 자료의 타입에 따라 달라진다. 위 사진의 자료는 Map(지도)다. 이는 자료의 형태에 따라 바꿔주면 된다. 

 

Verb는 가급적 Starting keywords와 다르게 쓰는 것이 좋다. 예를 들면, The shown graph shows ~는 show가 두 번 사용되므로 어휘력 부분에서 부정적 평가를 받을 수 있다. 

 

Description 또한 자료의 형태에 따라 달라질 수 있다. 위 자료를 예로 들자면, 현재의 지도와 미래의 지도를 비교하는 것에 중점을 둔다. 이 경우는 the changes of가 좋을 것이다. (The differences between도 좋다.) 전치사 뒤에는 비교 대상을 적어주면 된다. The Norbiton industrial area now and the planned future development 

 

완성된 문장 :

- The provided maps present the differences between the Norbiton industrial area now and the planned future development. [INTRODUCTION]

- The provided maps present the differences between the current Norbiton industrial area and the planned future development. (Now가 아닌 Current를 사용하여 Synonym 부분에서 좋은 점수를 받을 수 있다.)

 

 

 

 

3. General 작성 방법

General은 세부 사항보다 큰 틀에 집중한다. 

In general, overall, on the whole은 general을 시작하기 좋은 키워드다. 이들은 모두 '전반적으로', 또는 '일반적으로'를 의미한다. General 문장은 세부적인 것을 포함하지 않는다. 즉, 위치나 건물의 종류와 수를 자세하게 나타내서는 안된다.

 

위 그래프를 처음 봤을 때 나타나는 큰 특징은 다음 네 가지라 볼 수 있다.

1. 공장들이 모두 집으로 대체될 것이다. (Factories will be replaced by housing)

2. 인프라가 형성될 것이다. (Infra structures are going to be built.)

3. 호수를 지나는 다리가 건설될 것이다. (Bridge which passes through the river will be constructed)

4. 원형 도로 구간이 추가적으로 만들어질 것이다. (roundabout which is smaller than the current one will be made)

 

이를 종합하면 다음과 같다.

The provided maps present the differences between the current Norbiton industrial area and the planned future development. [INTRODUCTION]

In general, factories will be replaced by housing. Together with, infrastructures are going to be built. Bridge which passes through the river at the north will be constructed. Overall, smaller roundabout will be made to the south of the current one. [GENERAL]

 

 

 

 

4. General을 뒷받침하는 Details

Details는 세부적인 분석으로, General을 뒷받침할 수 있으면 좋다. 위 네 개의 General을 뒷받침하는 문장은 다음과 같다.

이전의 General이 구체적인 위치를 나타내지 않았다면, 이는 동서남북, 건물의 수 등을 명확히 표기한다.

 

1. 현재 8개의 공장이 있다. 하지만 7개의 집과 인프라 건축물들이 공장들의 자리를 차지할 것이다. (There are 8 factories now. However, 7 housing and infrastructures will take the place of factories.) - General 1,2 뒷받침

2. 계획된 인프라 건축물들은 놀이공원, 병원, 상점, 그리고 의료 센터다. (Planned Infrastructures are playground, hospital, shops and medical centre.) - General 2 뒷받침

3. 다리가 북쪽에 건설될 것이고, 이를 통해 사람들이 호수를 지날 수 있게 될 것이다. (Bridge will be built to the north which will make people able to across the river.) - General 3 뒷받침

4. 더 작은 원형 도로가 남쪽에 건설될 것이다. (Smaller roundabout will be constructed to the south.) - General 4 뒷받침

5. 또한, 도로가 현재 원형 도로 서쪽에  설치될 것이다. (Also, a road will be placed to the west side of the current roundabout.)

 

이를 종합하면, 다음과 같다.

The provided maps present the differences between the current Norbiton industrial area and the planned future development. [INTRODUCTION]

In general, factories will be replaced by housing. Together with, infra structures are going to be built. Bridge which passes through the river at the north will be constructed. Overall, smaller roundabout will be made to the south of the current one. [GENERAL]

There are 8 factories now. However, 7 housing and infrastructure will take the place of factories. Planned Infra structures are playground, hospital, shops and medical centre. Bridge will be built to the north which will make people able to across the river. Smaller roundabout will be constructed to the south. Also, road will be placed to the west side of the current roundabout. [DETAILS]

 

 

 

 

5. 다양한 어휘의 사용

Pass through - cut through - across (지나는)

Construct - place - build - make (만들어지다.)

Be replaced by - be turned into - be changed into (~로 바뀔 것이다.)
